Contemporary

The works shown are illustrative reference examples — public-domain museum works representing the categories and calibre Scion advises on. They are not offered for sale; available works are presented to clients by enquiry.

Contemporary work — here, art from the later twentieth century to the present — presents a different set of questions: attribution is rarely in doubt, but authenticity of edition, condition of unconventional materials, and market comparables for a still-developing body of work require close attention. Scion evaluates these works against artist or studio records, dealer and gallery documentation, and recent transaction history rather than historical scholarship. We look for a clear chain of custody from the artist or primary market, and for documentation of any conservation or material stabilization already carried out.
