Impressionist & Modern
The works shown are illustrative reference examples — public-domain museum works representing the categories and calibre Scion advises on. They are not offered for sale; available works are presented to clients by enquiry.
Impressionist & Modern spans roughly 1860 to the mid-twentieth century, from the first Impressionist exhibitions through the movements that followed — a period exceptionally well documented by dealer archives, exhibition catalogues, and, for many artists, established catalogues raisonnés. Scion weighs works from this period against that documentary record closely, since it is often complete enough to resolve questions that remain open for earlier periods. We look for consistency between a work's claimed history and the published record, and for condition and material evidence that support the proposed date.
