Collection Advisory & Management

What it is. Collection advisory and management supports collectors and institutions in the ongoing stewardship of a collection, rather than a single transaction — acquisition review, insurance scheduling, condition monitoring, and long-term planning.

Method. We work from an inventory of the collection as it stands — condition, documentation, insurance coverage, and any gaps in provenance or attribution — and build a prioritized plan addressing the most significant risks and opportunities first. For active collectors, this includes reviewing prospective acquisitions before purchase; for established collections, it more often means condition surveys, conservation referrals, and periodic revaluation.

Why it matters. A collection assembled over years or decades accumulates undocumented decisions — works bought without full due diligence, insurance schedules that have not kept pace with the market, condition issues that go unnoticed until a work is moved or lent. Left unaddressed, these gaps tend to surface at the worst possible moment: at sale, at claim, or at succession.

How to engage. Engagements can be a one-time collection review or an ongoing advisory relationship, structured around a fixed retainer or a defined project scope rather than transaction-based fees. We begin with an inventory and risk assessment, then agree priorities together. By appointment.
